Fleet Admiral

An Admiral of the Fleet, or Fleet Admiral (元帥, gensui), is a military naval officer of the highest rank.

The rank of Fleet Admiral has been reserved for wartime use only, the last of which were in World War II. It is usually a rank ranking above Admiral. The rank is often held by the most senior Admiral of an entire naval service but is also a generic term for a senior Admiral in command of a large group of ships, comprising a fleet or, in some cases, a group of fleets.

If actually a rank (equivalent to an Army Field Marshal or General of the Army, which ranks above General), its name varies depending on the country, including Fleet Admiral, Admiral of the Fleet, Admiral of the Navy, and Grand Admiral. (In some navies, however, such as the German Kriegsmarine during World War II, "Admiral of the Navy" has been considered an even higher rank than Admiral of the Fleet or its equivalent.)

It ranks above Vice Admiral, Rear Admiral and usually full Admiral, and is usually given to a senior Admiral commanding multiple fleets as opposed to just one fleet.

The title Admiral of the Fleet can trace its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title was typically granted to a nobleman who was appointed by a monarch to raise and command a navy for a specific campaign.

Admiral (大将, taishō) is a title of admiral signified senior command rank in the Marines. Admirals, also known generally as flag officers, were typically responsible for a high level military command at battle group or fleet level, and/or for administrative and political duties relating to Marine operations.

In One Piece, Admirals are shown as being the second highest rank behind the Fleet Admiral.

In the One Piece world, there are only three Marines with the title of Admiral. They are known by their aliases: "Aokiji" (Blue Pheasant), "Akainu" (Red Dog), and "Kizaru" (Yellow Monkey). The Admirals and Fleet Admiral Sengoku are the only Marines within the World Government who have the authority and ability to issue a Buster Call.[1]

The Admirals are crowned the World Government's "Ultimate Attack Force", and are the strongest individual fighters within the World Government and the Marines.

"Vice Admiral" (中将 , Chūjō) is a Marine rank of three star level, equivalent to Lieutenant General in seniority. A Vice Admiral is typically senior to a Rear Admiral and junior to an Admiral. The Vice Admiral position is the third highest post in the Marines and currently the one with most representatives seen in the series (before five named Captains) besides common, unnamed grunt soldiers. The highest seen position below a Vice Admiral is that of a Rear Admiral.
